Curriculum Vitae

Jan-Bernd Grosse Daldrup studied Chemical Engineering at the University of Dortmund and finished his studies with a diploma thesis dealing with the preparation and characterization of heterogeneous catalyst supports for the use in processes with dynamic pressure manipulation ("Erstellung und Charakterisierung heterogener Katalysatorträger für die Anwendung in Prozessen mit instationärer Druckführung ") at the Laboratory of Chemical Reaction Engineering in August 2006.

Field of Research

The aim is to characterize the solubility and the crystallization behaviour of multi solute solution such as fermentation broths and the upscale of batch crystallizers. In multi solute solutions the solubility of the main solute depends on several parameters such as e.g. the temperature and concentration of co-solutes. As these parameters define the thermodynamics of the system the co-solute concentration also influences the kinetics of the crystallization process, such as nucleation and growth kinetics.

These parameters are measured in an aqueous amino acid solution as amino acids are mostly produced by fermentation. The gathered information should be used to model the crystallization process and optimize it towards a narrow crystal size distribution as this is needed for the following downstream process, such as e.g. filtering or washing.
