Field of Research: Application of the Novel Tunable Aqueous Polymer Phase Impregnated Resins (TAPPIR®)-Technology for Continuous Flow-Through Separation of Biomolecules
A key challenge impeding the transition of biocatalytic routes to full-scale production is the lack of cost-efficient purification of enzymes. The Tunable Aqueous Polymer Phase Impregnated Resins (TAPPIR®)-Technology is a novel approach for the purification of biomolecules, where one Aqueous Two Phase Extraction (ATPE) phase is immobilized in porous resins. In this work within the NESEP project, the TAPPIR®-Technology will be incorporated in a column, transforming the current batch operated separation to a continuous flow-through separation. Thus the limitations of ATPE for industrial applications can be overcome and an efficient and environmentally benign purification technology for the downstream processing of enzymes will be provided.
